Starts September 1, 2026
Finish your book, start a new one, write a series of essays or a collection of short stories, or just find out what happens when you commit to a sustained writing practice.
Write your marvelous novel, wild memoir, hard-hitting nonfiction book, eclectic story or essay collection, or hybrid delight in the Literary Kitchen. Whether you’ve got a work-in-progress, an idea you’re ready to start writing to, or if you just want to show up, experiment, and see what happens if you say, Why not try and write something big this year? Come with your curiosity and your willingness to surprise yourself.
This immersive online workshop is built around two core commitments: writing into the joy and getting the work done. You’ll get weekly assignments, peer critique, and direct feedback from Ariel as you work in a community of writers who take the work seriously, take themselves lightly, and show up for each other.
Open to writers at all levels working in all genres. Beginners welcome. Grumpy old seasoned authors also welcome.
How It Works
Our trimester schedule follows a 3-months-on, 1-month-off pattern, with weekly or monthly submission deadlines. We meet September–November (December off), January–March (April off), and May–July.
The majority of our work takes place on a text-based asynchronous forum—log in when you like.
Optional monthly Zoom meetings are held the first Sunday of each month, Noon–2 pm Pacific / 3–5 pm Eastern, and are recorded for those who can’t attend.
Trimester 1 : Experiments in Truth and Fiction
One silver lining of the AI fiasco is that it invites us to write weirder and fully own our unique voices. Because everyone can write like a robot now, but only you can write like you.
Trimester 2: Borrowing from Genre
Learn to use techniques from romance to noir to fantasy and sci-fi in your work of any kind.
Trimester 3: Writing to Publish
For the Spring/Summer trimester we’ll shift our focus a little bit to publishing, but of course we’ll keep writing!
Reading list TBA.
